MH370 – 7 Mysterious Possible Explanations (#PrayForMH370 )

There have been many speculations to the mysterious disappearance of MH370.

Here are 7 possible explanations to what may have happened.

1) David Copperfield made it disappear.

Master illusionist, 21 Emmy Awards winner and 11 Guinness World Records holder may have vanished a moving plane as a publicity promotion.

2) It entered the Bermuda Triangle or The Devil’s Sea.

Yes we all know the Bermuda Triangle is far from the Gulf of Thailand sea but with this time and age together with the effects of Global Warming, the Bermuda Triangle may have shifted its coordinates to a new home in Asia.

3) Someone was hungry and ate it.

High in iron and other nutrition.

4) Prediction from the movie Non-Stop.

The movie Non-Stop (Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore) was released in Malaysia on 27th February 2014. The release could have been a sign that something strange could happen. Well I mean if French seer Nostradamus could have predicted 9/11 attack, I don’t see why can’t a scriptwriter do the same. Here is a numerology approach to it:

DATE CALCULATION NUMEROLOGY
Movie Released Date:27 – Feb (2) – 2014 2+7+2+2+0+1+4 = 9 9
Disappearance Date:8 – Mar (3) – 2014 8+3+2+0+1+4  = 9 9
Capt Zaharie Ahmad Shah http://www.paulsadowski.com/Numbers.asp 9
Fariq Abdul Hamid http://www.paulsadowski.com/Numbers.asp 9

Honestly, it is freakish to see the EXACT outcome after a numerology calculation. According to some numerology experts a repeat of the same number can be a sign of a bad omen (too much of a good thing is a bad thing and there must be a balance).

5) UFO may have captured the plane.

If you think about it logically, Boeing 777 is huge commercial plane with a typical seating capacity for 314 to 451 passengers. Should it crash, debris would have been spotted even if it was at sea.

Could a UFO have abducted the entire plane for experiment purposes?

6) Ocean Whirlpool swallowed it

Here is another phenomenon, the Ocean Whirlpool. If MH370 did crash into the sea. It is possible that the Ocean Whirlpool may have swallowed it.

7) LOST — an alternative world

There are many unexplained happenings in this world. This is definitely one of them.

Could there be an alternative world we do not know? A portal that only certain people will know?

I am a little skeptical but it is getting stranger by the minute.

8) The ‘disintegration in mid-air’ theory

The plane may have disintegrated in mid-air. How likely but unlikely for us to make sense how everything is disintegrated.

Mysterious disappearance of MH370 assumptions aside…. the mystery is yet to be solved and we hope that God will keep them safe. May God help the relevant authorities and bless them with the wisdom and strength to press on in search of the truth.

Top Heart Wrenching Magic Topics – Doruk Ulgen

There have been a few heart wrenching topics floating in the magic community, 2 of the common topics are: exposure of trade secrets and copy cat magicians.

Apparently for Turkish magician, Doruk Ulgen (a David Blaine look-a-like), copy cat magicians affected him in many ways. A public video was made addressing to David Copperfield, Jeff McBride, Pen&Teller and Mac King — the main magicians that his competitors have successfully copied the original acts without the creator’s permission and have since soared stardom on local programs such as Turkey’s Got Talent.

Such copyright issues are tricky as the productions are not as big like international shows like Cats – The Musical, The Phantom of the Opera or Les Misérables.

At ATOM we believe in original scripting, original choreography and original personality. Believe us, it will bring BIGGER success. Just look at David Copperfield, Jeff McBride, Pen&Teller and Mac King. They made their millionaires with magic — which they 100% deserve.

Now most bookers/agents may not be aware of this but customized shows and out-of-the-ordinary performances will most likely stumble a copy cat magician. Making the event look bad for the event organizers and bookers/agents. We encourage bookers/agents to support REAL talents by hiring REAL performer (we use this term because copy cat artiste doesn’t just limit themselves to just magic). Yes, they may charge a higher rate and it will be awarding.

All the best!

Lunar New Year Magic (Is Lu Chen quitting magic?)

Happy Lunar New Year! We had lots of fun during the new year with our new act featuring a Chinese Magic Mask Changing (aka Bian Lian 变脸) and Lion Dance.

Speaking about Chinese New Year, the most raved about and watched Chinese New Year show, CCTV New Year’s Gala (中国中央电视台春节联欢晚会), was missing Lu Chen. Replacing him was controversial magician Yif Magic (a.k.a. the magician that uses special effects to achieve his illusions). CCTV New Year’s Gala is a yearly event that is broadcasted before the Lunar New Year (a.k.a. Chinese New Year, Spring Festival) on cable/satellite TV channels: CCTV-1, CCTV-4, CCTV-9, CCTV-E, CCTV-F, and CCTV-H. The broadcast has a yearly viewership of approximately 700 million viewers. Thus, making it one of the premiere television events of China. In 2014, it has reached an estimate of 800 million viewer. WOW. Congratulation Yif Magic on your big break.

So the question is… what happened to Lu Chen? China Daily reports that Lu Chen might be “has grown hesitant of performing because his illusions lack proper legal protection”.  “The Spring Festival Gala is my largest challenge, not the content, but the performance itself”, says Lu Chen. Compared to David Copperfield, “anyone who leaks the secrets” that is involved in his magic performance “will be liable for huge financial damages”.

For years now, magicians have been battling with magic exposure and ownership. As Rick Lax mentioned, “in the field of magic, theft is rampant. Close-up magic wholesalers steal from close-up magic wholesalers. Parlor manipulators steal from parlor manipulators. Large-scale illusionists steal from large-scale illusionists. Why do they do it? Because they can.”

Will definitely hope that Lu Chen will be on CCTV New Year’s Gala 2015. For now, enjoy the videos of Lu Chen’s 2010, 2012 and 2013’s CCTV New Year’s Gala performance.

Türkiye Kıvanç ve Burak Turkish — Magic of Coincidence or… something else?

This has been an unavoidable topic here at MagicATOM.Wordpress.com — Copy Cat Magicians. In the video below Turkish Magicians Kıvanç ve Burak claims to have created their original routines. It is evident that they did not and it was indeed original routines by Jeff McBride, Mac King, David Copperfield, Penn & Teller.

It is beginning to make me wonder why would someone openly copy a magician’s hard work. It is like ripping off his paycheck and say I am going to do a sub-standard performance to get famous.

I have heard of certain magicians and mentalists saying it is “okay to copy top notch performers”… Well, I am sorry if you have integrity issues if you going to copy the entire routine just for profits sake. Yeah, you may have a good monthly salary but I can be sure that you won’t be recognized locally and definitely internationally.

In one’s defense there was a magician that once told me that he was doing a “tribute act”… Well, it will only be a legit tribute if 1) you openly acknowledge the act belonging to the creator(s) and I mean, through the poster advertisements, Internet and etc., and 2) you have gotten the permission from the creator(s).

“It’s the singer not the song. You can’t steal the voice.”

Jamie D. Grant Gets It RIGHT!

Jamie D. Grant is a paramedic, writer, artist and magician. What a mouthful that was.

What made Jamie known in the entertainment industry today was his artistic creation of a sealed deck of cards in an unaltered glass milk bottle. Something David Copperfield wouldn’t be able to do.

Magic – Art, Craft Or Neither

Since January, I have been pondering to myself: “why isn’t magic consider an art to most people (laypeople, I assume)” — on contrary to one of the most famous magician’s topics “is magic an art?”.

In the video “Is Magic An Art” by Paul Wilson (The Real Hustler), the world’s finest performers and creators shared their thoughts on that topic. That stirred up some thoughts of my own.

Which brings me back to my original thought, “why isn’t magic consider an art to most people?”. Could it be because magicians never portrayed it as an artistic form or could it be because the history of magic wasn’t all glamorous. Thus, banishing the art to the corner like a naughty kid because sleight of hands were used in street gambling con game.

Magic did have it moments too off the busking days and kids magic magician that you used to see when you were young. One of the many reasons why I got into magic was because David Copperfield did the most impossible things on stage in the most artistic manner, glamorous too. One of those memorable moments was on David Copperfield’s The Magic of David Copperfield XVII: Tornado of Fire, David Copperfield teleported himself with a member of the audience to Hawaii from hundreds of miles away in seconds, completely surrounded in front of a live audience.

So what’s considered art and craft? Music, dance, artwork display and the list goes on without having ‘magic performance’ on the list. According to Oxford Dictionary, art is “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination … producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power” and craft is “an activity involving skill in making things by hand“.

In conclusion, it would be right to categorize Magic as both art and craft since it involves creative skills to evoke emotional through the use of sleight of hand and its showmanship (beautiful display). Kiddos to international on-screen magicians like David Blaine, Cyril Takayama, Criss Angel and Lu Chen for changing the perspective of magic to the general public. Magic isn’t just for kids, it’s an art the transcend all level and age for all generation.

Wayne Houchin (Magician) Burned – Update 3 – VIDEO

U.S. magician Wayne Houchin is recovering in a Dominican Republic hospital after a TV host lit his head on fire with a flammable liquid.

Houchin was a guest on the Dominican Republic’s “Approach  the Stars” TV program Nov. 26 when, he says, host Franklin Barazarte unexpectedly poured flammable cologne on his head.

A video of the incident shows the magician’s head bursting into flames as Barazarte runs his hands over Houchin’s hair.

A warrant has been issued for Barazarte’s arrest.

Houchin was rushed to the hospital with first- and second-degree burns to his face and hands. He wrote on Facebook, “This was not a stunt or part of an act. This was a criminal attack.”

In an e-mail to ABC News, he said: “The doctors here are cautiously optimistic that I will heal with no scars on my face.  Each day I look and feel better.  My hand, however, is in a lot of pain and isn’t healing as well as my face.”

Even world-famous magician David Copperfield has come out in support of Houchin.

“You try to present yourself as a performer that is creating wonder and amazement and occasionally somebody might misunderstand that and might think that you’re trying to foster belief in something supernatural,” Copperfield told ABC News Sunday night.

Houchin was performing on the show with a group of magicians. After the performances, Houchin says, the host told them he wanted to give them a “blessing.” Without warning, Houchin  said, the host doused him with “Agua de Florida,” a flammable cologne commonly used in Santeria rituals.

The video shows Barazarte and others trying to extinguish the flames for a few seconds as Houchin lay on the floor covering his face.

Someone in the video can be heard saying, “His face is burnt.”

It is unclear what ignited the cologne. The incident was not broadcast on Dominican television, according to The Associated Press.

The show has not responded to ABC News’ request for comment.

Houchin has gained international success as a magician. He has appeared on Discovery’s “Breaking Magic.”

Houchin and his wife earlier this year broke the world magic record for the fastest upside-down, dual strait-jacket escape.
